Sonshine Station Preschool is dedicated to providing loving care and early Christian education to the children of our community as well as to nurture and support parents in the discipleship of their children. We seek to provide a Christian community where children can discover a loving God and grow in a living faith, as they become lifelong learners. Our purpose is to provide a nurturing environment that will allow children to ask questions, explore answers and creatively solve problems as they grow emotionally, physically, socially, and spiritually in Christ.
Sonshine Station Preschool is a Christian preschool. We have daily devotions and we stress the importance of loving others just as Christ loves us. Our daily Bible lessons consist of a Bible story, Bible memory and worshipping God through songs and prayer.
With Christ-like attitudes, behavior and Christian based materials as resources we will help children grow to become the person God wants them to be.
1. We believe a Christ-centered environment and curriculum will help children develop a better understanding of God’s love and encourage them to love God and others.
2. We believe children grow when they are in community with others. They will be encouraged to form Christ-centered relationships of trust and affirmation.
3. We believe that children should enjoy the opportunity to question and explore.
4. We believe children should be encouraged to give and receive love, forgiveness and faithfulness.
5. We believe children should be challenged with age appropriate curriculum that is fun, interesting, and culturally relevant and promotes a lifelong love of learning.
Achieving Our Goals
At Sonshine Station Preschool children are engaged in active learning using developmentally appropriate curriculum. We strive to meet the needs of the whole child. We plan activities that encourage growth in large motor skills, fine motor skills, social and emotional areas as well as language development and thinking skills. Music, literature, math, social studies, and science are integral parts of our daily activities. Throughout each session, each child is given a variety of opportunities to work with other children in large and small groups, as well as one-on-one attention with teachers.
We want to build enthusiasm for reading and writing. In the process of doing this, children who are ready will recognize the sounds and shapes of the letters of the alphabet in a very natural context. Not all children will master their ABC’s, but they will gain from the exposure to the letters and letter sounds.
As an introduction to letters, words and phrases, books will be read, and songs will be taught to the children. We will use as many senses as possible to learn beginning reading skills. This helps the children remember the new and exciting information they have learned and tie it in with information they already know. We will also learn colors, numbers, and shapes.
To integrate math and science into our daily activities we will create an environment that will stimulate children’s curiosity. Children will be encouraged to ask questions and be given the opportunity and resources to answer those questions through observation, exploration and through manipulation of objects. We also enjoy going on field trips and having special visitors come in to teach us about different careers or cultures.
